Housed in a renovated Georgian coaching inn, Chequers, Maresfield, is a period hotel rich with history. As well as a warm welcome from the staff, you'll find it's an inn packed with historical touches throughout, including a secret 75ft deep well.
The elegant rooms are all filled with character. Some have wooden floorboards and others a classic four-poster bed, but all are well equipped and beautifully furnished. The beds are large and cosy, whilst each room has an en-suite bathroom, a flatscreen TV and free Wi-Fi.
You'll find plenty to do in the local area too. For nature lovers, Ashdown Forest, home to that most famous of bears, Winnie-the-Pooh, is a short journey away, as is the rest of gorgeous High Weald and its wonderful walking paths and cycling lanes. History lovers can enjoy over 30 castles, manor houses and gardens dotted across High Weald, plus the nostalgic fun of Bluebell Steam Railway. You'll also have easy access to local towns like East Grinstead and Royal Tunbridge Wells, and Brighton and the coast is only 20 miles away.
