Between the Jardin des Tuileries and Place Vendôme
The hotel takes its name from its architect, Jules Hardouin Mansart, the man behind the design of the Château de Versailles, the Dôme des Invalides, and Place Vendôme. Completed in 1720, the building was first used as a home by Alexandre-Gabriel Lemonnier, jeweler and creator of Empress Eugénie’s crown.
Converted into a four-star hotel at the start of the 19th century, the establishment has become imbued with the different eras it has passed through, including the Grand Siècle, the Second Empire, and the Victorian influence of the late 19th century. This rich history contributes to the unique atmosphere, which extends into the rooms decorated with antique furniture and an authentic, 120-piece art collection. Portraits include Eugénie de Montijo, Napoleon III, Mansart himself, and scenes from mythology, history, or daily life. The only exception to this collection of period art is a creation by Georges Jeanclos, one of the greatest 20th-century sculptors, entitled “Esprit de France.”
Just around the corner from Place Vendôme, finest High Jewelry brands, the hotel is just a few blocks from a host of activities. Take a stroll through the Grands Magasins department store, watch a play at the Comédie Française, a concert at the Olympia, or a ballet at the Opéra Garnier, visit the museums along the Seine, and venture into the Madeleine Church or the Bibliothèque Nationale… Your curiosity is your only guide.
